Volunteering

A volunteer is a person who freely donates time, effort and skills to assist the students and staff at Woody Point Special School.  Most volunteers participate in classroom programs which involves community outings, computer work, cooking, reading, writing, motor programs, art and crafts, photocopying, making resources and individual support plan program assistance.

Volunteers come from all parts of the community, different backgrounds and a wide range of ages. Men and women of every trade, profession and calling become volunteers for different reasons.  Some volunteers want to share their knowledge and skills with the school.  Other volunteers want to change their careers and come here for the experience.  Some volunteers want to feel part of a team.  Some of our student’s parents are volunteers and assist in many ways.
 For whatever reason,
volunteers are very welcomed here at Woody Point Special School and are considered a fundamental part of the team.A Working with Children Blue Card will be required before starting any voluntary work in the school.  This can be obtained by visiting the school to discuss volunteering options or visiting the Working with Children site at www.childcomm.qld.gov.au.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer and would like more information please contact the Education Program Officer on 3480 4333.
